I was folding over night and I awake this morning to a quiet PC. It simply will not turn on. I was able to get the PSU fan to lurch an inch by doing all these things at once: replug main power to Mobo, Change wall outlet, Change power cable, turn PSU off then on. Unless there's some way to tell I suppose I'm dealing with a dead PSU? I bought the parts March 29 of this year, there was no previous signs of imminent failure and warranty was only for 30 days so I guess RMA is out of the picture. My laptop can play GW2 so I'm not totally lost this Christmas season. Here's hoping Canada Computers has a decent Christmas sale? Looking for confirmation and/or recommendations. Its the sig rig and I only need a 600W. UPDATES: PSU is fine, new mobo will be acquired. Read up on VRM and CPU vs Mobo power. Took me a few min to find the best lighting in my house. So now my concern is (seeing as the Mobo and PSU are all on sale for about 60-80 bucks, phew now here's hoping I can RMA at least one of them) is my CPU likely fried? I saw no discolouration around it, how's my GPU likely to be? I saw no issue with it either. My SSD was running the OS and my HDD the folding, the HDD should be fine but what about my SSD? The SSD is very new and its covered by both Intel and CanComp so that'll be taken care of if anything happened. So much for a 14000 point WU.First I had trouble getting folding to work on my old rig and now this? I know its not responsible but I'm not putting that kind of demand on my system anymore (other than for the few hours at a time of gaming). Edit: I just went on the CanComp website and it says that Manufacturers Warranties on these products were between 3-5 years (I'm not 100% sure I found exactly mine but all of the ones that looked like mine had that) I still have a photocopy of the original receipt (the original was sent in for a Mail-in rebate on the GPU). I bought this all in March so it hasn't even seen its first year through. Guess I can try to RMA, my wallet thanks me my LAN party on Sunday does not. At least my laptop can play GW2 and Civ 4 decently. OK so just to make sure I understand: my CPU is probably screwed and I don't think you can get a 1090T anymore. I had a mosfet/VRM failure which I'm reading up on to understand what that means. Thus far all I can tell is my mobo is made from scraps and its not meant to hold the cpu its listed to hold and thus literally overheated and burned? I'll need a new CPU and thus a new Mobo so I can't just RMA them as I'd just have this issue again. The rest of my parts are probably OK though? I'm getting really stressed now, I told everyone the LAN is cancelled until the new year when I'll finally get a new rig put together which I was hoping I wouldn't have to do for a few years yet. CORRECTION AND IMPORTANT UPDATE: I did not follow instructions properly. I did not unplug my PSU from EVERYTHING. I did so now and the fan runs when the paperclip is in. That's the only thing that'll do anything noticeable on that PSU (there's no LED or anything) so I suppose my PSU is fine! But my mobo is certainly dead and most likely my CPU as well but EVERYTHING ELSE is probably OK? (sorry for not really understanding this, I come here to troubleshoot and do small mods as I really suck at electricity (my worst unit in all of HS science, that's why I'm an Archaeologist ).
